Zealous Feathers

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ A beautiful white cockatoo in a Dromana home driveway, zealous about eating seeds spilt from his birdfeeder in the tree above his head.

I need to carry my camera attached at the hip...as I wondered to the kitchen this morning, a beautiful red cardinal was perched as sentinal atop a rusty fence-post...as I flew to the other room to get said camera and back to shot...he had vanished...some birds fly faster than others.

So exotic the cockatoo, can't imagine them in my yard, but would love to. My native birds will suffice in my country world, beauty is in all species.

The bird is beautiful, and you do get their trust by having lots of food available. Th bird feeder food is plentiful, but this cockatoo seems to thrive on whatever he can forage...

Love these birds:) I friend of mine had one many years ago. His bird "Dolly" was a lovely "person". I have to sat that because we often forgot that she was a bird. She was a beauty! Nice post!

Beautiful in all respects - bird, photos, commentary and poem! The beautiful wild birds were a highlight of the year we spent in Australia, where Otto was on sabbatical from U.C.Berkeley, and was doing research at Monash University in Melbourne. We had plenty of free time to explore other places, and I especially remember a night when we slept out in a deserted area under winter-bare trees and woke up in the morning to whole flocks of cockatoos, lorikeets, etc. perched on white sun-bleached branches above us or wheeling against a blue, blue sky.

I really enjoyed this post!
