AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Stained Perfection

Magpie Tales #89 - Picture Prompt

Windowless
Like my mind

Walls stained with the blood of
Anger and
Broken dreams
Like my heart

A desk marked with curled
Blank slates
And one
Twisted
Noose of
Confusion

But the typewriter
Shines
As if new

Dustless
Unloved

Mein Kampf

Perfect

Stretched Viewpoint

A piece of playground equipment at Point Leo on Westernport Bay involved this bendy mirror feature.
The reflection represents a stretched view of the landscape.

Playground reflections
Elasticised green landscape
Colours in new shapes

Power of Red

A little red walking Dromana beach

Just one small teardrop of red
Keeps a heart beating

Clouds on the March

Bulbous clouds marching into Dromana

Parade of white clouds
An army of gentle fists
Making decisions

Height of Haiku Challenge ~ Rhythm

When the car is parked in the rain and you are sitting inside the car, it is amazing to see how rain rhythms constantly re-create the regular shapes and colours outside.
Here, the red car looks as if it is suffering ongoing battering and the front of the mall behind looks like a passing wave!
Then there is the overall misty effect!

White Spray

So much white spray from the tumbling waves at Rye Back Beach, Mornington Peninsula

Where waves rock and roll
Boundless water energy
Fountains of white mist

Just another beach
But mind the little sea horse
Guarding his treasures

P.S. This is actually just a boatshed on Dromana beach, but don't tell the sea horse!

A young girl alone near Dromana beach seems all wrapped in her own almost spring world!

Trai_n_n_n_n_n_n_n_n_s

Poetics – Trai_n_n_n_n_n_n_n_n_s

It was a steam train
Sweet steam scents hustled round the carriages in the early evening light

Inside
The stiff pews vinyled in deep greens or matt black
Waited for patience to deal with them on the long journey

Our long journey was from Sydney and west to the Blue Mountains
To the gateway of the Blue Mountains
Springwood

I don't remember much about the journey
(I was just a very young child)
But the swaying motion gave me
A fickle calmness
A peace
I hadn't felt in days

Finally
We reached a station that loomed
With blaring lights
From the dark of darkness

Light flashed across my mother's face
It was marbled
Cold

Her hat
Her black
Sweeping hat
Crushed all sense
That this was my mother
Taking me on some adventure

There was just the feeling
That we were boxed here
Carted to an Auntie's home
(An auntie I had never met)

And somehow
This Auntie would
Soothe some balm
And somehow
The recent death of my father
Would be
All right

Beauty Before Chaos

My climbing, crazy bean plant begins its tortuous journey with some pretty Spring flowers.
Here it is climbing round my verandah!
I have taken the photo on an unusual angle to enhance the shadows!
