AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Ruby Birds

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Rosellas wandering around looking for flower seeds at Arthurs Seat, Mornington Peninsula

Ruby Tuesday prompt
~
These birds are a common sight on the Mornington Peninsula. They seem as much at home walking in grasses as flying to trees to have a good social chatter! When they dart in and out of trees, the flash of colour is quite magical!

A flash of rubies on the wing
Is like
A gleaming spark of passion
Longing
To sing

What a beautiful bird you get to enjoy, so exotic and tropical like. Birds are such wonderful creatures to observe, as I was getting my bum chewed out today by three Jenny Wrens, a Mother and her brood I'm sure, but for a bird only 3 inches tall, they certainly told me and Scratchy who the boss was.

I agree with Noni - those are beautiful, amazing birds. We just don't get birds of that rich color in So Calif. I like the way you match text colors to the theme. Thank you for your visits to both my blogs & I think it's great to be able to see what's going on all the way in Australia - daily - next best thing to being there.

The Rosellas are very beautiful and colorful birds with such a pretty name. I would love to have a few in my garden. It would be "magical" to see them flying about. Wonderful RT post - both collage and poem!
