Hi Gemma.. don't know much of History.. but your take on prompt touches some chord somewhere perhaps for those who faced..
Fascinating. It is appalling some of the things we have done and are still doing in our ignorance and fear.
Thanks for the history lesson.
I loved your take on the 3WW's. Wonderful Collage.

Now THAT is interesting.
A sober and thought-provoking take on the prompt. Good job.
The pictures you post from the immigration center are so thought provoking. I wonder what hidden miseries illegal immigrants detained here are subjected to.
You gave us something to think about.
*tilts head*
Very intriguing. Thank you.
What an unusual slice of history!
disinfectant for luggage? looks ancient :) :D lovely photo and words Gemma!
Hmmmm. I've never seen a machine like that before! Is this in a museum?
You put forth a little slice of Australian history to educate the rest of us, and judging by the comments from others, it did manage to open a lot of eyes and spark much thought. Thank you for that Gemma.
I wonder how effective that old luggage disinfectant really was, and what they were trying to keep out. If this was from pre-antibiotic days, I can understand the fear.
Did they only treat the immigrants like potential carriers, though, or did they check everyone on the boat? If you're trying to keep diseases out, then you should check everyone, even citizens returning from their travels. To do otherwise is prejudice.
That was an incredibly moving, unique take on this weeks promt. It was poetic, stirring, and moving in it's simplicity. I can't wait to read more of your work!
Yikes! I didn't know about this (but am not surprised, having just recently posted about some of the (too many) sadder parts of our country's history.)
I envy your ability to put across so much in so few words. (I take more words to comment on your lovely posts than you do to write so much more!) Thanks for sharing the good the bad and the beautiful.
it is rather comical in a strange sorta way... nowadays they take a bodyscan complete with pictures
