The Morning Glory, a spectacular propagating roll cloud which frequents the sparsely populated southern margin of the Gulf of Carpentaria, (northern Australia) is one of the world's most exotic and interesting meteorological phenomena. Morning Glories are frequently observed during the spring months near dawn over the southern Gulf area between Sweers Island and the remote community of Burketown in northern Queensland. They often appear in the form of one or more, rapidly advancing, rather formidable roll cloud formations which extend from horizon to horizon in a long arc as far as the eye can see. The cloud is usually about 3000 feet in depth with a base at about 1000 feet above the surface. On occasion, the base of the cloud may lie below 300 feet AGL and the depth may exceed 6000 feet. ~ Dropbears

Rolling spring clouds
White
With billows
Like long
Gloved
Fists
Throbbing

Looming
Larger
Like a Titan
Growing ~
Slowly opening
The eye
Of a giant mind
Magnetising
Gliding
Thrillseekers
Into
A thousand kilometre
Wave
Above
Tame
Micro waves
Simpering
Sulking
Far below
On some
Thin
Pale sands

So much more than
Just a flower
Purpling

This is amazing. I have never heard of or seen a picture of this type of cloud formation. I like the images of gloved fists and how well it mirrors the picture.
You taught me something about this magical cloud. Wonderful poem!

Gemma, I was wondering if I could interest you in a poem I wrote about a 39 year old who suffered from cancer. It isn't for any prompt .

I published my Week 7 OSI posts yesterday (Wednesday) on each of my blogs.
Hugs and blessings,
let me be counted among the cloudy ignorant... i know cirrus and cumulus and that is where my education left off.. this was remarkable,, not only in the beauty of the words,, but also in the interest it inspired.....
I can't stop thinking about :
Slowly opening
The eye
Of a giant mind
It is just right. And also: the morning glory, to me, IS more than a flower. I just never found the words.
