AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

BE ~ for Writer's Island

Pic from Ursi's Eso Garden by the artist Inoue Naoki
~
Take the breath
Of the wings of morning
Lift your eyes
To the canyons
Of the skies
And fly!
~
Morning breath
Morning breath
Trembling
Blurring
Hungering
~
Speed
Speed is power
Tumbling
Spinning

Senseless
Non
Sense
~
Waking
Waking in moonlight
On dark
Silvered
Waters
~
The years hum by
Softly glowing with stars and promises
Angers and fears slowly drown
In the waters of Lethe
And flight
Is the inner longing for
Perfection
~
Wings
Dreaming of shimmering wings
Dreaming of being
Wings

Loneness
Inner earth
Inner time
Inner sky
Inner heaven
Being
Is the art of flying
~

Gemma,

I like your fresh way of using some words here in this poem to create graceful poetic lines. I am amazed how you used and dressed this supposed to be stale words and effectively made them look fresh with your unique way of carefully putting them together in this poem. Simple words achieving profound meaning as they gracefully dance in lines and in lovely rhythms.

Your poetic gift shine in this well crafted piece. You are like an alchemist of words turning them into gems of poetry.

I wish you well.

Amazingly well written Gemma

specially loved the last verse .

The contrast of ideas ..for when you say "inner" it somehow indicates confining ..while here it is the exact opposite !!

I have been on this flight ...

Thanks for your visit and the lovely words for the verse and picture .

"Being is the art of flying" is a wonderful ending! Our dreams must fly if we want to live. Wonderful poem!

I love the tone set by the first stanza. I never thought of flight as the inner longing for perfection, but it is, isn't it?

Wonderfully done. Your "flights" of fancy were very dream like in their images. At some point I felt like a free flying bird.
