AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Passing Thoughts #1 ~ Memory and DNA

Passing Thoughts #1 ~ Memory and DNA
+
Monday Poetry Train Revisited #93
~

What if our memory is not really
A function solely of the mind
But the role of all sensory receptors in the body

What if the mind is only one memory storage of a current life

What if DNA is the hunter
The gatherer
The harvester
The collector

What if
We don't always know what we know

What if
It takes an experience to activate
Distant memories

What if
Sometimes
It takes the meeting with
Others
(Any living being
Plant
Human
Maybe energy recognition)
To complete
The puzzle of
Who we really are

Just passing thoughts...

Icarus ~ Drowning Wings on Fire

Collage by Gemma Wiseman ~ 2 of my pics superimposed = my log fire + gull skimming the waters at Blairgowrie, Mornington Peninsula

One Single Impression #119 ~ Icarus
Haiku Bones #26 ~ Quietly
Monday Poetry Train Revisited #83
~

Pretend to have wings
Reckless exhileration
Eternal waxworks
~
Drifting quietly
Universal predator
Icarus still burns
~

NOTE: The reference in the last haiku is to the asteroid Icarus which came "close" to a collision course with Earth in 1968.
It is expected Icarus may pay a return visit!
So the poem depicts two Icarus personas -
one of legend and one of...

P.S. Icarus must be in the air.
Roland D Yeomans at Writing in the Crosshairs has presented a beautiful post called
The Icarus Wind
He begins:
It's a lovely song by the equally lovely {and evocative} Thea Gilmore. The Icarus Wind is also the spirit which sweeps us up and hurls us into the misty clouds where our dreams live.
It is a dangerous realm. There is no promise of success. And there is no safety net to catch us should we fall...
And then he creates a lively "dialogue" of the Icarus journey of getting writing published!

Night Rain

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Early on a recent Autumn evening, I took this shot of rain from the comfort of my car parked at the Dromana Mall, Mornington Peninsula

Haiku Bones #20 ~ Night Rain
Monday Poetry Train Revisited #77
~

When mourners lessen
When wars seem vacant places
There's always night rain

When age wearies some
And only the past gives hope
There's always night rain

When happiness drowns
When life is just survival
There's always night rain

When the spirit sighs
When crowds seem lonely spaces
There's always night rain

Haiku Bones #17 ~ Anthem
~

When shadows hunger
When the winds of fortune ease

When life is scratched with a pen knife
When earthly visions rust

When the spirit sours in loneliness
When clouds ponder low

When light limps

A walk in the colours of Autumn
Means
A walk in harp strings
Nature's
Sacred golds
~
* HAIKU Postscript
Gold is of the Earth
Treasured anthem for the soul
Endless bank account

~
