AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Radiant Wings

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Wild Spring winds at Dromana beach, Mornington Peninsula

Totally Optional Prompts ~ Blank Verse
~

How shall I walk sedate when seas are wild
Or warm my troubled heart when winds are chilled
I cringe into my coat and wonder why
Why do the seabirds soar in raptured flight
And relish all the cruel biting gusts
It seems as if they know the thrill of rides
Joy riding all the spins of Nature's wheels
The sun still beams bright rays of glorious glows
The sea churns sparkling jewels from sacred depths
And now my spirit yearns for radiant wings

How lovely to have found your blog. I too write poetry (but too shy to post on my blog!) I think I will come back here often. This is a beautiful poem - it realy conjured up a walk along the seafront as well as conveying its deeper message - and I love the lines 'Joy riding the spins of Nature's wheels' and 'The sea churns sparkling jewels from sacred depths'. Does it have a title?

The sea is a source of inspiration! That proves your poem! It must be a lot colder in Melbourne than in Queensland and certainly than in Cooktown.
Thanks for visiting!

I love this post. It looks cold and windy though.

Now I'm inspired to take a walk along a beach. Before cold weather I hope.

Crashing surf and high wind - and the giddy feeling that comes with walking in these conditions - brings back memories.
