I've never seen the raw eyes of war
Terror laden face of the young
Cradling a weapon of death
Tight in innocent hands
Humanity's shame
Lonely young heart
Beating cold
Frozen
Child

This one is sad, Gemma. I can't imagine being so afraid that I had to own a gun to protect myself from the ravages of a country. Or worse, war from other countries. We certainly need to change our perspectives and find a better way of living. Nice job. Have a nice day.
oh gemma,, that was excellent.. i recently read a wonderful memoir of a young man that became a soldier as a child.. it was gripping.. i cannot even fathom such a life.. but i do know,, we can do things we never in a million years imagined we could....
You've chosen serious subject matter here, Gemma. What could be sadder than a child drawn into war and carrying a gun, Your poem is beautifully expressed and i really like the form - almost a reverse Fibonacci.
The subject is emotional and goes to a place that I don't want to go. The shape of your poem is intriguing, leading down further and further until all that is left is the child (just where the focus should be).
using the Nonet form works perfectly with this message! you have captured the issue so well in this. it is quite sad, yet so true...and your poem is gripping!
An excellent expressive post. Thanks for your thoughts on this important human rights issue. As the Preamble to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights reminds us, “…recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.”
