Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Critter (a shag?) on a post at Schnapper Point, Port Phillip Bay, Mornington Peninsula.
If anyone can tell me what this bird really is, I would love to know.
I only saw one of these critters.

Looks sort of like an albatross
:-Daryl
He certainly is a handsome fellow in his tuxedo!
He looks like he's listening intently.
Gorgeous Gemma :)
Beautiful sea bird...the closest I can come up with is a Buller's Shearwater. Sixteen and a half inches (42cm)and breeds in New Zealand. Hope that helps, I have an Audubon Master Guide that I use all the time.

I think he's a Pied Cormorant. Did he have red and blue markings on the sides of his beak? It is tricky to tell sometimes. Either way, he is a cute little guy!
I thought Cormorant of some southern hemisphere type.
Very good pictures.
what an interesting looking bird! great shots!
beautiful bird
I hope you stop by at my CC post also in HERE. Thanks
Great shots! I'd vote for cormorant, too.
What a beautiful seabird! I don't know its name eitherHave a great weekend!
I have no clue. When I saw it from the front I thought penguin but then the side views told me no. But then again I'm not the greatest at bird identification and we have nothing really like that here. Great shots though.
I really wish I could help you, but I don't know what it is. What I do know is that it is beautiful.
He does have a cormorant look, but the colours are so different to the ones I snap. Just gorgeoeus.
I think he's posing!
Resembles many birds - fine post sandy
I don't know what it is, but very pretty pics.
(Can you tell I'm playing catch-up?) I've never seen one of these birds before. It has a very unusual shaped head but it's a beautiful bird. Great shots!
Great shots!
Great shots and handsome looking bird. I don't have any idea either what he is though! Let us know if you find out!
Whatever he is - he's AWESOME looking!
I thought these were professional pictures at first! Good job! And perfect for the Black or White theme this week. :)
Thank for playing!
Awesome pictures - although I'm clue-free on the type of bird. Perfect fit for the HorT theme this week. Kind regards!
Definitely a Cormorant (otherwise known as a shag). Leads to the joke ;) "The fishing is ruined if you have a shag on the rocks..."
I have no clue what this intriguing bird is, but had to stop and say thanks for sharing, even though I'm a week late … just because I enjoy both Camera Critters and HoTs myself.
Hugs and blessings,
