AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Broken Wings

3WW prompt CIX ~ corpse + damage + knife
One Single Impression prompt #36 ~ Disguise

~

Just a little rain dampening the boards ~
Just a few scattered leaves ~
A tourist display stand
Empty of glossy brochures
~
Just a nonchalant disguise
Secreting deeper wounds
~

Pic By Gemma Wiseman ~ Silent wheels of the chairlift
~
You see before you
The corpse of an icon
The grieving
Vacant shell of
Old summer joys
~
Strange how human error
Accidental human error has
The power to damage
Lifetimes of
Happiness
~
The knife of circumstance
Wields
Relentless
Revenge
~
Even the disguise of
Standing firm
Will be
No more
Soon

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Once they winged Arthurs Seat slopes. But now, they lie broken.

Another fine poem. Again such a lovely line: "The grieving
Vacant shell of
Old summer joys"

Wanted to wish you Happy Halloween, though yours is probably over now... :o)

How sad that some joys are only seasonal.

One of the most sweetly poignant things to me is a summer place in the fall. You've captured the ghost of peoples' vacations etc. beautifully in word and picture. Love 'broken wings' too.

Dear Gemma--
It feels like this is more than just a seasonal closing...? 'Deeper wounds'. Curiosity is aroused!

This was beautifully done.

I like how you begin with the surface and lead the reader, through both the verses and the photos into that deeper place.

We build and unbuild with less sensitivity than seasons. Lovely work, as always...
