Torrid Cauldron ~ for Writer's Island

Think of torrid and you think of heat
Passion
Love affair
Sex
Even
Hate
All human
Unbridled
Cauldrons of heat
~
But what might be
A torrid room
A torrid window
A torrid home
A torrid street
A torrid country
~
Is that the makings of
A torrid world
Regardless
Of Aristotle's Torrid Zone?
~
The 2000 Olympics in Sydney
Showed how fire and heat
Can survive
Harmoniously
~
The torrid games of life
Can find gold
Melted
In a cauldron
~
The lighting of the Olympic Cauldron was one of the most spectacular aspects of the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Cathy Freeman walked to a pool of water and as she swept the flaming Olympic torch across the water a ring of fire sprung from the submerged Cauldron. The flaming cauldron, with water cascading from its lower flutings then rose to be joined with the mast, which emerged from behind the northern stand of the stadium. The united structure ascended to a height of where it stood for the duration of the games. ~ Pic and comment from Sydney Olympic Park

I sense ideas flowing and I read your thoughts. Your take on the olympics brought to mind Singapore's successful bid for the inaugural youth summer olympics in 2010. Thanks for the post.

That had all those "torrid" emotions of a passionate love affair ..albeit with sports and excellence!!!

It must have been a spectacular sight to witness.

A novel take on the prompt.

Fascinating! I wish I had seen it, but I can't remember what I was doing that yr...

Gemma,

I watched that spectacular event on TV and I could still remember the excitement ~ it came alive again as I read this post. Thank you for reminding me of that event.

I hope to watch the olympic games live, one of this days. I'm praying for the olympic games in Chicago, 2016. I came too early.

I wish you well.

Torrid can seem to suggest harmony, too.
Interesting thoughts.

Excellent interpretation. The Sydney Olympics were indeed a special time. I'll never forget the lighting of the torch. It was very moving!

Excellent timing with the torch even now on its way to China. It'll be our turn in 2012!
