Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ A beetle like character that appeared on my verandah, in the Dromana Hills, Mornington Peninsula.
This is the most colourful, unusual creepie crawlie I have ever seen.
Is it a Japanese beetle? If anyone knows, please tell me in the comments!
N.B. I posted other photos of this character earlier in December here!

No, I don't believe this is a Japanese beetle, but I could be wrong. I love its beautiful metallic colors. nice capture. I really like this.
My first impression was Japanese beetle, but after looking at the photos on Bugguide (http://bugguide.net/node/view/473), I changed my mind.
That might be a good place to get an ID, if you're so motivated. I'm sure they'd love to have a photo that good, whatever the species.
Best wishes for the new year, Gemma. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your photos.
