A beautiful little bird. Sparrows were so common when I was growing up(1960's)we never gave them a second glance. Now both the House Sparrow and Tree Sparrow in the UK are on the endangered species list.My best wishes for 2011.

I think sparrows are so cute but difficult to identify! Your photo is lovely!

I startd to appreciate sparrows more this year when I spotted the White Crown, Tree, and White Throated varieties this year. Your picture is wonderful and shows the great beauty of these "small miracles." ;-)WBW

Such a little sweetie! One of my New Year's Eve goals is to try to take better bird pictures.

Amazing to read @the constant walker's comments. Endangered in the UK? I knew they were declining, but wow. Here in the U.S., they are EVERYWHERE and expanding.

Sparrows are the forgotten bird for sure, but when you look close they really are beautiful. Great picture.

I get a few of these in the garden through the year.
I love to hear their chirpy little calls.

Very nice shot of the male House Sparrow Gemma! I did not know they were endangered now in the UK either. You know, our House Sparrows here in the US came from the UK in 1840 and spread across North America.

House Sparrows are not protected here in the US because they are a non-native species. Maybe someone should initiate a relocation program, capturing the birds in the US and translocating them to the UK.
