AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Short Sharp News Alert #3 ~ Dromana's New Pearl

An artist's impression of Dromana's Pearl Beach Resort - from Mornington Peninsula Leader - Dromana resort ruling rage
~
Short Sharp News Alert #3 ~ Dromana's New Pearl ~ A sonnet
Monday Poetry Train Revisited #63
~

A coastal village on Port Phillip Bay
Dromana is the joy of seaside life.
Each season is a song in Nature's play,
Each moment is a scenic pause from strife.
When holidays are tempting weary slaves
And Christmas is a time to find escapes,
Parades of campers inundate the waves
While residents try dealing with new shapes.
But those new shapes will last for longer now.
A huge three tiered resort will grace the shore.
The humble tent will fringe the fancy bow.
Our simple pleasure place will be no more.
Pearl Beach, the pretty shell without the pearl -
Is this the way our nation will unfurl?

To one man who may be concerned...

Collage by Gemma Wiseman
~
Carry on Tuesday #18 ~ This week the prompt is the opening
sentence from Ehud Havazelet’s 2007 novel Bearing the Body:
The letter sat before him, unopened, propped against a coffee mug

Monday Poetry Train Revisited #45

Curly dark secrets
Propped against a coffee mug
Fathomless caverns
~
He had moved to a new place
No one should find him
~
He had closed the door
The windows wore blinds
~
He chose to carve a new life
Without prison bars
~
He had lost a love
Or did love lose him
~
But shadows wander
Shadows haunt the subconscious
Letters are shadows
~
Unopened war wounds
The letter sat before him
His mother reaching

Enlightenment

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Just watching the waves at Dromana beach, Mornington Peninsula.
NOTE: I first posted this photo exactly a year ago, here on my blog!
I still love the sense of beautiful silence imbued in it!

Don't speak,
Words will only steal the moment

~ Opening to Anonymous poem Farewell
~
Monday Poetry Train Revisited #44

~

Don't speak of nothings
Let the waves bring you whispers
Ideas from afar
~
Avoid illusions
Secrets from the horizon
Tangible dreamings
~
Stand tall beside me
Gaze deep into the waters
You and I are there
~
I may be a child
But I feel Nature's rhythms
Do you remember
~
Lead me to your dreams
And I will give them heartbeats
Connect with my waves
~
But please stay silent
Words will just steal the moment
And I'm just a child

Three Bells

Multiple exposure collage of phone at Tyabb Art and Craft Village + night lights in Dromana Hills, Mornington Peninsula
~
Carry on Tuesday #16 ~ It was a wrong number that started it, the telephone ringing three times in the dead of night ~ Opening to Paul Aster's City of Glass (1985)
~
Monday Poetry Train Revisited #43

~

In the dead of night
Telephone ringing three times
Like the dead walking
~
Heavenly chaos
First love was a swirling place
No rhyme or reason
~
Far away island
Just clumps of rhododendrons
Coloured packaging
~
Island castaway
Eden was a savage place
Second chance crumbled
~
Skimped reality
Cold telephone reminders
Wrong number wrong place
~
Three chances to love
Last life is ringing now
For whom the bell tolls
~
