I saw this sign on a car window and wondered what it all meant.
When I Googled the website of
Patagonia Torquay I was more intrigued.
The business sells products that are environmentally friendly.
The wild world we love is fast disappearing. At Patagonia, we think that business can inspire solutions to the environmental crisis. This means that what we make and how we make it must cause the least harm to the environment. We evaluate raw materials, invest in innovative technologies, and rigorously police our waste.
And their origins were especially fascinating.
In 1973 Patagonia established itself out of a small company that made tools for climbers.
Reaching the shores of Torquay in 2008, our values here in Australia reflect those of a business started by a band of climbers but now focus on our national past time of surfing, and the minimalist style that lifestyle promotes. The approach we take towards product design demonstrates a bias for simplicity and utility.
For us at Patagonia, a love of wild and beautiful places demands participation in the fight to save them, and to help reverse the steep decline in the overall environmental health of our planet. We donate our time, services and at least 1% of our sales to hundreds of grassroots environmental groups all over the world who work to help reverse the tide.
The business is part of a
Conservation Alliance founded in 1989.
And the fish in the sign?
Torquay is on the southern Victorian coastline - by the sea.
And the business sells fly fishing and surf products too.
