What a beautiful rose :) I have a similar variety in my garden, who would've thought! I must admit I haven't read that Hardy book. Now you got me interested.

Have a great weekend!

I love the sign, and the rose, it is making me curious about the book.

Well the rose complements the sign !! Both are very delicate characters

Love David Austin roses - though sometimes wonder about the reasoning behind the names of specific varietals.

a lovely tribute to Tess. i remember reading the novel in high school.

I read the book in high school and saw Tess as a rather courageous figure, not as a tart. The movie then disappointed me, as it portrayed her more as a victim. The rose named after her is stunning, but I wish it wasn't red... which is sometimes associated with lasciviousness.

That ain't red!
My goodness, Tess was not a red, she was a delicate but rich pink, with soft vulnerable looking petals that were stronger than they appeared! Lovely photo, succinct verse.

the rose is gorgeous. So glad they named it after that character.

I can see the significance of choosing a red rose to pay tribute to Hardy's Tess...a creamy peach rose won't be the right choice, would it?
