Friday Flash 55
~

We thought World War II belonged in Dad’s strange, smudgy past.
But a trip to defences at Point Nepean, in the far south of Australia, shattered our crystal reverie.
Here was the spot where he once manned a cannon, watching.
And here was the very phone where he made his last call to Melbourne!

I recognise the feelings behind the picture. Near us is St Fagans which is a museum of historical buildings. It turned my son on to history, which he is doing his degree in. Anyway, they have a row of mining cottages and each is furnished in a different eras style from the 1850s to the 1990's. So I stepped into the living past of my grandmother and mother - very emotional. Thanks for dropping to hear (yes hear!) or read my Friday 55 Flash fiction then click here. Hope you have a good weekend!

How moving. Your thoughts remind me of when my OH went to Normandy with his father.

Nothing like a family tie to bring history a bit closer to us.

Interesting 55.

Beautiful, emotional, well-crafted 55, and the feeling of reopening almost forgotten mysteries - a piece of the past's puzzle rendering it alive again.

Ohh.. this was sad, but lovely!
Sometimes we really wish and actually begin to think that some memories don't even belong to us and are looooong gone.. but only to be reminded that that's just not the case!

A very emotional and beautiful 55...
Thanks for sharing this painful yet proud memory..
