Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ A dusky green-coloured, shy variety of rosella in the Dromana Hills, Mornington Peninsula.
These birds, in the parrot family, are so hard to photograph because they are flighty.
In built up areas, it is rare that they come close to humans.
Usually it is just a flash of colour in the trees or sky.
But at Wilson's Promontory, further round the southern coastline in Gippsland, Victoria, the rosellas there will fly down looking for food and land on anyone's head or shoulders .
They are quite tame at Wilson's Prom.

Gemma, I'm not good with names of birds. That looks almost like a parrot to me :)
It's amazing to see lovely birds like that around you.
The only bird friends that I've got visiting me are the black pigeons that claim my balcony as their loo *faints*
Happy Weekend!!!
Great shots! He has beautiful colors. I know what you mean. It is really hard to capture them on camera, but it makes the photo even more precious because of this. Have a wonderful weekend, Gemma :)
Your pictures are great but,it's the third one I'm drawn to most. Your words compliment this beautiful creature.

Great photos. I'm in NZ, and our native birds don't like sitting still for photos either!
