AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Lorikeet Feeding Young

Rainbow lorikeet feeding some apple from our apple tree to its young

High pitched squeeking sound
The sound of the hungry young
In lorikeet worlds

Peewee Friend

This little peewee is becoming quite friendly, hanging close to our verandah for most of the day.
Rarely does he seem to be with others.

Black and white beauty
A little lonely spirit
Seeking company

One Legged Pigeon

This one legged pigeon hangs around the entrance to Dromana Hub.
Always alone.

Lonely winged beauty
Always seems to be waiting
Waiting for someone

Broken-Winged Cockatoo

This white cockatoo has a broken wing.
But he seems to be able to fly quite well!
We have seen him round our home for several years and we've named him Gammy!

Disability
A wing that will not fold down
Still he keeps flying

Winged Characters Line Up!

A gathering of winged characters - 2 cormorants and gulls - line up on an old weathered beam at Tootgarook on the southern end of the Mornington Peninsula.

Feathers of the sea
Happily dream together
Like a line of souls

Protective

Spring is breeding season! And territorial swallows do not like their nest space being invaded.
That space includes the skies around too!
Here, a little swallow has just swooped a butcher bird on our flag pole!

Protective swallows
Guarding their worlds with passion
Darting and swooping

Framed by Wings

I was photographing the swimming gull at Dromana beach but managed to capture an extra pair of wings!

Spur of the moment
Swimming feathers framed by wings
Joy of circumstance

Bees

Bee on a Spring flower in my garden in the Dromana Hills.
The flower is commonly known as Patterson's Curse!
I'm not sure if the name is because the plant can spread wildly or the fact it attracts so many bees!

Where the bees wander
Flowers flourish beautifully
A honeyed moment
