I've heard of three legged stools, but not chairs. A three legged stool is used to milk cows, and if often used as an example in setting up retirement programs, the three legs being retirement program, savings, and investments.

I didn't know what an 'op shop' was but after I thought about it and read your words I figured it out and its a great name. I support stores that do that kind of work, but they're just not called that.
I'm not sure any three legged chair was actually 'quality preloved'.
