A big bill on a little bird. You do have a lot of birds unknown in the US.
What a beauty.
Like Martha says, such a big bill.
aw! what a cutie :) Looks like he let you get some nice shots!
Great photos - it looks like a very young bird.
Interesting name of this little beauty. Just googled this relative of the Magpie. Similar behaviour as some of our Shrikes. I won't add more. lol
Grand photos!! We have a butcher bird also called a Northern Shrike. Boom & Gary of The Vermilon River, Canada.
Your Butcher Bird is quite a character and you have taken the definative pictures. Fantasticly detailed capture!
Great bird! I am posting to World Bird for the first time this week. Most of my bird pix don't turn out well enough (another of my many goals to get better at!)
Asleep, with feathers fluttering in the breeze. Good picture, Gemma. Not so sure I like the bird all that much. I understand you are well away from the floods. What a disaster for the country.
WOW such a wonderful bird small with that mighty beak---taking a power nap!!
Seeing sweet lil' critters like this just makes me want to grab my paint brush and start an image in softness.
I can so identify with the flooding, it's so tragic anywhere in the world...my heart goes out to your fellow Aussies Gemma!!!

Excellent shots of the Butcher Bird Gemma. I love the first shot of the little guy sleeping.
