AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Lost Footprint

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ On the rail with just a shadow
~
Weekend Wordsmith prompt ~ Lost Sock
~

I am just
A lonely
Deflated
Piece of colour
Destined to dream of
Old journeys
~
Once
I was
A necessity
Warming
Protecting
Maybe loving
The very tips of humanity
~
I was a seasoned traveller
Carelessly
Walked and
Washed ~
Always presumed
To be there
~
But there are
(Should be
Must be)
Two of us ~
Inseparable twins ~
Together
We were
The music of
Your song
(Not that you ever really knew)
~
But now
You will never know ~
For my other
Sole is
Lost in
The footprints of
Somewhere ~
And I can only dream
Of of my other days
Lost
In the silence of
My shadow
~

Your poem creates a feeling of loneleness and a longing for the past. The feeling someone gets when he or she has lost a partner. It's beautiful!

As your loney souls move to change in season...so do mine.
As my heavy woolen protectors stand guard,
the season of their use
stands steady.
My shift to share their working hours saddens
as my days grow short
I will shift to slumber, alone.

Love the lonely shadow...the lone sock...(so me)!!! Cool words spoken.

I like it! Especially the part about "lost sole" - I so love a good word-play!

A "piece of color, destined to dream of old journeys..." what a wonderful phrase. Your poem speaks eloquently of loss and loneliness.
