AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Till I Find My Wings

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Seagull on a war memorial at Flinders, Mornington Peninsula

One Single Impression prompt #26 ~ Resolve
~
Dawn is not
A broken morning

Clouds are not
The shorn fleece of
Ominous shadows

Rain is not
A sign of
Tomorrow's tears

Summer sunlight is not
A reason to hide

I promise not
To toss stones
Idly in
Someone else's
Bucket

I will stand firm on
A rock and
Look outwards and
Upwards
Till my wings
Know how and
Where
To fly
~

I will not
Be
All
I can't be

But I will
Try
To be
Simply
Me
~

Oh, this is so inspiring, Gemma.

I feel like the bird waiting for my feathers to grow so I could spread my wings and glide and soar and reach heights and look at life from above and see distances beyond the adversities that restrict me from seeing ahead.

I wish you well.

I love the way you dismantled so many tired ideas and invested my thought of them with meaning.

Gemma, your lovely poem reminds me of my goslings, who are currently in flight training. I have often imagined what it must be like for them to soar that very first time!

I especially love these lines:

I will stand firm on
A rock and
Look outwards and
Upwards
Till my wings
Know how and
Where
To fly

and your last beginning "I will not be all I can't be..."

Great post.

The very first line spoke so well of what you are trying to say. I love that you double negative the negative thoughts turning finally into a positive.

I'm glad I'm resolved to be inspired by others' creativity. You have so many lines which I adore, including:

I promise not
To toss stones
Idly in
Someone else's
Bucket

and:

I will not
Be
All
I can't be

Thank you for this.
