AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Set on a tree trunk
Fresh sculpture of an old face
World of dimensions

Narrow balcony
Some choose to distance detail
Tollways challenge leaves
~

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ I found it strange that with all this Enchanted Maze Garden beauty before them, people on the cafe balcony turned their backs and chatted about other things?

Light Translations

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Burst of sun light over Port Phillip Bay at Dromana, Mornington Peninsula and a vapour trail of light from a small plane etches the blue of the sky.

Boom Time

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Dawn light on the hottest day on record in Melbourne.
It reached 46.4 degrees centigrade.
This image is taken in the Dromana Hills, Mornington Peninsula, south of Melbourne on Port Phillip Bay.
(Records began in 1855)
By the close of the day, the whole state of Victoria, Australia seemed on fire.
Strangely, Arthurs Seat National Park (just behind my home) escaped.
There were just a couple of small fires in my area, but not in the park.
I feel blessed.

Worn Out

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Sunlight fading the carpet on school stairway
~
Weekend Wordsmith prompt #77 ~ Faded
~

It happens at times
Too much sunlight pales the colours
Faded old walkways
~
In worlds of today
Blare of light obliterates
Blurred old shapes and sounds

Lost Footprint

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ On the rail with just a shadow
~
Weekend Wordsmith prompt ~ Lost Sock
~

I am just
A lonely
Deflated
Piece of colour
Destined to dream of
Old journeys
~
Once
I was
A necessity
Warming
Protecting
Maybe loving
The very tips of humanity
~
I was a seasoned traveller
Carelessly
Walked and
Washed ~
Always presumed
To be there
~
But there are
(Should be
Must be)
Two of us ~
Inseparable twins ~
Together
We were
The music of
Your song
(Not that you ever really knew)
~
But now
You will never know ~
For my other
Sole is
Lost in
The footprints of
Somewhere ~
And I can only dream
Of of my other days
Lost
In the silence of
My shadow
~

Where have all the voices gone?

Collage by Gemma Wiseman ~ Roads and signs round the Mornington Peninsula
~
Weekend Wordsmith prompt ~ Searching
Where have all the signposts gone
Long time
Fading
Where have all the sign posts gone
Long time ago
Where have all the signposts gone
Gone to Stonehenge every one
When can we ever see
When will we ever see
~
Where have all the voices gone
Long time
Echoing
Where have all the voices gone
Long time ago
Where have all the voices gone
Gone to graveyards every one
When will we ever hear
When will we ever hear
~
Where has all the sunlight gone
Long time
Cooling
Where has all the sunlight gone
Long time ago
Where has all the sunlight gone
Gone to Edens never won
When will we ever learn
When will we ever learn

Signs of Candlelight

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Magic Candle Light
~
Weekend Wordsmith prompt ~ It's a sign
~

Flickering candlelight ~
In a room of dark shapes and shadows ~
Is a sign of
Comforting warmth
The embrace of peace
The sign of calm
In the eye of storms
~
Sometimes
A parade of candles
Burning in
A quiet
Sacred space
Are signs of
Memory
Willing the past
To live on
~
But a candle
Burning
Lonely in
A dark window of night
Is a sign of
Silent
Desperate
Aching
Prayer ~
Willing a loved traveller
A safe return
Home
~

Foiled

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Hastings pier
Weekend Wordsmith prompt ~ It didn't happen
~

I longed to wander the pier
Right out into rippling waves and sea air
But there was lots of wire
Long and spiked
Dividing the official
From the casual
I longed to be free
It didn't happen
~

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Stony Point station, Mornington Peninsula
I longed to capture the train
Sinking
With a sigh into
The end of the line
I waited
I waited
It didn't happen
~

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Pelicans at Hastings
I longed to forget finding
A precious digital moment
Today
And just go home ~
But a surprise pose
From a photogenic pelican
Ensured
It didn't happen
~

Old Keys Lost

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Old key
~
Weekend Wordsmith prompt ~ Old key
~

At times
It is good to lose old keys ~
Then old
Cracked memories
Of broken living
Are locked
Decomposing
In tight caverns
~
But
There are times
When decomposition
Secretly
Fertilises
New ground
~
