AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Haiku Challenge #6 ~ Think in Haiku + Pi-Ku

One of the women helping to serve breakfast to the Dromana community at Dromana beach on Australia Day 2012.

Gracious old lady
Yesteryear's white ruffled cap
Thoughts of loved grand'ma

I see her
smile
tucked in her work

(Pi-Ku - 3 - 1 - 4 structure)

Lonely Mural

At the end of a small, no through road in the industrial area of Rosebud on Port Phillip Bay is this mural.
It faces a spare allotment and scrub.
Who would know it was there?
The mural appears to depict a Melbourne train on fire, breaking through a stream of complex, swirling graffiti.
(And Melbourne is spelt Melburn on the train.)
The mural appears to have a message - many messages.

Artist are you sad
Railroaded into demands
Do you feel broken

I tried to photograph the full extent of the mural but it was difficult.
It begins on the right, but continues a little further on the left of the photo.

Double Yellow Trouble

Two yellow boats moored in a channel at Frankston beach, Mornington Peninsula

Quiet yellow craft
Do you dream of sea journeys
And long to be free

Surrogate spirit
Eternal changing faces

Shadowy Steps

One of several sets of steps leading from the Dromana foreshore to the beach on Port Phillip Bay.

Zig zaggy shadows
Inviting steps to the beach
Sea dreams seem so close

The shadowlands can be a quiet place to meet the quiet dimensions of the soul.
