Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ A week after Victoria's devastating fires first began, the morning skies over the Mornington Peninsula (south of Melbourne) still glow with smoky beauty.
Here in the Dromana Hills, we may not be part of the wild fires, but it is as if we are trapped in the eerie eye of a storm.
To the north and east are fires, always lurking on our horizons.

It is a horrible situation in your country - and even in the horror one can find beauty. An ugly beauty never to forget. I hope they find the people who startet the fires.
You've captured these terrible yet beautiful images magnificently and the Haiku resonates ... reminding me of Southern California's myriad of wildfires in November of 2008 and October of 2007. I continue to pray for all those affected.
Hugs and blessings,
I think this is really pretty.
I myself have just lived through what you are going through now, due to the fires that swept northern Ca. last year. My Picasso web albums are filled with pictures of the smoke, the sun, moon, etc in the midst of such horror and devastation of those fires. Your pics are great although humbling just knowing that fire has no heart, and it picks on no one in particular. Your country has been in my prayers, and myself just heard a couple days ago that these fires may have been the work of an arsonist. If it is I hope he is caught so your country can do what they believe needs doing. What a shame!
Thanks for having me!
I couldn't tell which one is the smoke and which one is the cloud.
Great captured!
Beautiful picture -but terrible..I think of you!/Eva
What is happening in Melbourne just breaks my heart. No amount of words can describe what & how the people involved must feel. No amount of words can bring complete comfort. Our thoughts & prayers are with all. Your title is very apt.
I am so sorry for all the pain and suffering you are all experiencing. It is good that you took these photos because loss like this should never be forgotten.
Oh my Gemma I have been keeping up with this story. I have many online friends who live in Australia.
The fires are almost unbelievable. Wow just look at all of the smoke.
Thanks for sharing this with us. Now you will always have it recorded.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you during this terrible time!
Jackie:-)
It really is an eerie look & has to be an eerie feeling being there!
