AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Paradoxical Summers in Australia

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Just a week ago, I took this photo.
The waters on Dromana beach were moody and a little rough.
But today, after the hottest day on record in Victoria, (46.4 degrees centigrade) there are now up to 11 large fires out of control.
Meanwhile, by contrast, in the far north of Queensland, floods are creating havoc in 60% of the state.
Yet my little world on the Mornington Peninsula is bathing in refreshing rain and a few stray rolls of thunder. The image above could have been taken right now! So strange!

It is nice that it is normal there. We are still in 41oC heat, but I guess it can't last much longer.

lovely ocean scene. I wish you the best with those fires. Weather is so alive, we never know what will happen!

You're lucky to be in your place where it does rain a bit. This is a lovely scene.

Wow Gemma it sounds like you Aussies are experiencing much the same thing we are over here in America right now.

Even though it is winter, we are having blizzards and avalanches in some parts, floods in others, and where I live we are in a drought.

So all of that water in that beautiful ocean really looks good to me right now.

Great shot Gemma!

WoW I'm so sorry all of that is going on there! I sure hope it all stops soon for everyone involved!

That's a beautiful water view. I'd love to walk to the end of that pier. I hope all your wildfires get under control soon. We have a lot of fire danger here in California, too, but lately we've been getting some rain. All the best!
