Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Thick haze of smoke over Port Phillip Bay as seen from my back verandah this Sunday afternoon in the Dromana Hills.
This is just a sign of the ongoing fires still burning north and east of Melbourne.
Usually, this is a beautiful view.
But to see such smoke almost paling out the waters of the bay and Mount Martha in the background is quite frightening.
And then there are the dramatic gusts of wind blurring the leaves.

In this smokey world
Light seems just a slave to fire
Distorted beauty

Tragic and disturbing. There will be an influx of fans, etc. for Phillip Island within a short while. I wonder if they will cancel.
Having lived through a few wildfires here, I can relate. It is quite frightening and surreal to see everything familiar suddenly seem so eerily foreign.
These images, though troubling, are nice additions to Sunday Scenery, because they remind us that besides the beautiful scenes in the world there are also areas of heartbreak and loss. Thanks for sharing with us, and know that the people of Australia are in our thoughts and prayers.
Wow, that is heartbreaking. Having been near a few of those in my life I understand how devastating they can be.
Mine is up over at Flo's Place
Wow, this is tragic. Have a wonderful weekend.
I remember how hard it is to breathe after such massive wildfires ... and how ash covers everything for a long time. It's so sad ...
Hugs and blessings,
