The alliteration in the first line makes the journey through the copse to the beach seem rough and hard-fought. The choppy start and stop of the consonants complement the war fought.

Your haiku reminded me of Omaha beach wounded men on the Normandy coast of France, as did your picture. Then I remembered the Asian campagne against Japan.
