AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Sad Wisdom of Afterthought

Collage of skies and reflections
~
Writer's Island Journals prompt #9 ~ If Only
~

If only is
The sad wisdom of afterthought
The drum-beat yearning to change a decision
Light beaming on old darkness
~
If only is
A mythical return to
An intersection
A self-inflicted longing to take
Another road
~
Reflections
Imaginings
Other worlds
~
Insight in hindsight
~
If only is
Knowing the path to happiness is questionable
Realising an apparent negative choice
Hopefully learning from experience
~

But what if...
What if there is another view...
~

If only
Could have been
The wrong decision...
What if that byway not taken
Looks inviting
In retrospect
(As an alternative)
But in fact was never meant to be
~
If only we valued
First decisions
First choices
Lived with them
And walked on
(If only we accepted
Reverse charges are
Null and void)
So many nagging sadnesses
And regrets would be
Magically
Eliminated
~

Like the tone of questing you have created, and the fact that you provide several views, still leaving all answers to the reader.
This is a quiet piece but it builds with each image, each question.

Thank you,

Elizabeth
