AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Shadowless Flight

Strange how the cockatoos on the verandah cast shadows but no shadow from the one in flight

Shadows of morning
Wings finding refreshed flight paths
Questions of the day

Cockatoo Competition

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Cockatoos on my verandah railing in the Dromana Hills, Mornington Peninsula.
Cockatoos are not known for fancy manners.
If another cockatoo is eating desirable food, it is quite OK to attempt to snatch it - even from the mouth!

Twelve Cockatoos

Collage by Gemma Wiseman ~ Collage of 12 cockatoos on my verandah in the Dromana Hills, Mornington Peninsula.
(In the top photo, on the left, there is one cockatoo just visible behind the wings of another.
And there is one cockatoo in the distance on the higher railing.)

Wings more than wings...

Sunlit wings inspire
Sweet early morning insights
Dreamings for dreamers
~
I love wings
Not as it used to be
(Those old days
Locked in my natural instincts)
Now I see
Their spirit
In my spirit
~
But I digress
~
I fly now with the one I love
~
She is still there
On earth
Travelling
And I still watch over her
~
I remember those beautiful days
Protecting her
Curling round her tears
Letting her know
She was not alone
She would never be alone
~
I remember walking with her
Slowly
I shadowed her footsteps
Daily
~
I rested on her pillow
I kept her warm
~
She always brushed me tenderly
Kept me happy with my favourite foods
Let me snuggle close
On her lap
For hours
~
I remember
I remember
I will always remember
~
We loved with a love
That was more than love
~
Eternity is ours
Now

It's Those Cockatoos Again!

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ The wild winter weather has abated a little and the cockatoos are returning to our verandah looking for food.
We still only feed them occasionally (not with sunflower seed because they become agro, fight and generally embark on ballistic escapades! Imagine up to 50 or more cockatoos doing this!)
