AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Colonial Scarecrow Family

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ October is Scarecrow Festival time on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria.
There are many fascinating interpretations of scarecrows to be found around Red Hill and the mountain of Arthurs Seat.
This collection of scarecrows feature near the emtrance to the Red Hill Showground.
Fortunately/unfortunately, the wired fence + background are so close to the figures that it is impossible (I am in the "small stuff" category) to photograph them completely.
So I worked with the "intruders" and decided to suggest some symbolic interpretation.

Carved Wood Fantasy in Monochrome

Collage of one of my treasured, unusual pieces of artwork.
Woods include maple, white pine and cedar.
It was bought some years ago at Goldies Crafts in Kiama, New South Wales
The wires behind are from my stereo.
This was the only place where the piece would stand with support from the bar below the table.
But the wires seemed to add extra interest to the monochrome.
