Some weeks ago I mentioned that I would return to Crib Point Cemetery on the Mornington Peninsula.
It is now the Winter school holidays.
They began with lots of rain, but, at the first sign of sunlight, I returned to Crib Point.
This headstone attracted me immediately.
The setting of rain puddles - like mini wetlands - so suited the essence of this beautiful headstone.
The pelican, the kookaburra and the ring-tailed possum are all representative of our peninsula wildlife.
The frame of water and leaves captures this part of the peninsula so well.
I can't find details of her life.
All there seems to be is this presence of her beauty.
Kind loving lady

In touch with her soul

How beautiful, Gemma....the headstone is wonderful and your words honor her spirit. A lover of wildlife...kindred spirit!
oh how i love this headstone. it's definitely inspired me to have something similar for my grave one day. your haiku was a beautiful tribute to her. hope all is well. have a great day~
That is a lovely stone, wish you could find more information on her life :( Check your local library for info, I bet they could help you find something.
How wonderful. It is so deeply embedded in nature. She must have been so special. Thanks.
What a lovely headstone!
A different and modern touch to traditional headstones. I guess it is what she would have liked being in tune with nature and animals.
A very nice stone with all the nature related images.
that is a beautiful headstone.
it doesn't leave any room for her husband, but then maybe he was not such a nature lover.
It tells perhaps more about her than the traditional words and string of names. It is a shame that the 'construction line' is visible down the centre of the headstone.
When I was at Camperdown Cemetery over the weekend, I saw a number of headstones (very ancient headstones) squelching in mud, and lying in water. We having had much rain, as you have. However, these headstones were not being done a favour with their feet in constant moisture. I do hope that does not happen to this lovely memorial. I do agree that it gives the appearance of a wetland.
She was only 44 ...
I really like this stone, though the swampy ground is a bit worrying.
Great motif on the stones for a nature lover. Like the idea of a wildlife pond as a memorial, not sure how practical it is as a grave site though.
What a beautiful memorial.

What a fantastic headstone! That lady could only have been a wildlife lover. Great tribute.
