We have a "not our dog" too. She comes to see us from the horse farm at the top of the hill. She's an older black lab and just comes here to get away from the other 4 dogs that work on the farm.
Your line about "her total blindness is not a disability" reminded me of the line "his blindness was his wisdom" from the Secret Journey.
Her nose knows the way.

Long ago when our then cat, Sans, went blind we were very concerned and the vet said 'dont move anything, dont rearrange the furniture and she will be fine' and she was ... animals are not limited by the loss of a sense ....
