AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Winter Flower Songlines

In some worlds
Winter time is not usually a time for flowers ~
But in Australia
Any time can be
Flower time
~
Don't be deceived
By tiny
Pale
Microscopic blooms
Struggling in a shop barrow
~
A walk through any street
Reveals
The drama
The orchestration
Of winter flowerings

Many brushes inflamed with passion

But for me
The loveliest of all
Has to be
The beautiful heartsong
Of a camellia
Weeping
In gentle rain

Lovely to see flowers in bloom all yaear round, but one of the most pleasing things about places with clearly defined seasons, is the new life that appears after winter.

Lady Gemma, what a lovely poem and presentation. Just beautiful. I know my nephew loves it down under. ;-)
He went to school there.
