Destiny is something we choose to go after.... Fate is something that happens to us, and seemingly takes away our choices, but in fact actually leads us back towards the choice of Destiny we already made before we were born. - Order of the White Lion
Jane Archer had the original idea for Destiny Fortune Chocolates at the beginning of 1997. Even though it was simple it had not been done before.
They are in fact a world first. As New Zealand made the Chinese gooseberry into the kiwifruit she re-invented the Chinese fortune cookie into the Fortune Chocolate. She felt Destiny Fortune Chocolates with the half moon in the logo was perfect for this new concept, and trademarked it.
A few weeks later she found just the right chocolate. They are now handmade in New Zealand from this original family recipe, using real chocolate and a liqueur flavour (non-alchoholic).
Jane also wanted the messages to be original. She therefore drew her inspiration for them from her own experiences in life. This was largely influenced by her exposure to humanity during her many years as a nurse.
She'd observed that everybody seemed to be motivated by the desire to have "that good feeling" (happy, content, inspired, fulfilled, hope, love, joy). She therefore wanted to encourage that feeling in whoever received her messages.
After finding a way to put the messages in the wrapping, Jane trialled them with people from all walks of life with a great response. They first went on sale in a cafe in Christchurch, New Zealand in November 1997, where they continue to sell sucessfully today.

Picture Imperfect: Reflections on Humanity - Fate. Like a tree, roots fixed firmly in the ground. Which branch I climb is my choice to make.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Destiny is like our shining Light Angel, winging a little ahead of us as we amble our inner landscapes. And Fate is our Earth Angel, grounding us in Nature's Tree of Life. Destiny always seems to be like a holy grail; a beautiful dream with the charm of hope. But Fate often seems to be a kind of chained nightmare with the despair of a hangman's noose. But if we see Destiny as a travelling light rather than a product and if we see Fate as a growing tree, then we can see them both as angels far more clearly.
~
Our Light Angel leads, while our Earth Angel walks close by, shadowing our every move.
Destiny and Fate
Light Angel and Earth Angel
