Awakening is like
Awakening is like
Dragging yesterday's sleep
Into tomorrow's dream ~
In between
There is some fuzzy source of light
Wanting to be noticed
~
But if third eye reverie
Is not quite your style
Awakening
Can simply be
Little more
Than the ritual
Dawn jangle
Of an alarm clock

"dragging yesterday's sleep into tomorrow's dream" is a terrific image. I also like the switch into the pedestrian in the second stanza. From personal experience - a device best used sparingly.
I felt a little sad with your comment. The word pedestrian, when used as part of a critique, usually implies "ordinary", a subtle but negative comment.
In actual fact, I intended the last stanza to sound a little pedestrian on the surface; and that was the irony. I don't like direct sarcasm, so chose a gentle way of digging at those who have a ritualised awakening. This idea was implied by "little more".
Perhaps it was a little too subtle.

very nice write... makes me thankful i haven't had to have an alarm to wake up to in many a year...
Some people are awake yet without dreams, I'd rather let them sleep and dream. Perhaps in that way they may live. For what is life without a dream? What's the reason for awakening? Many are like living dead, awake yet sleeping, and what's worse than not having a dream.
I wish you well.
