Just off Swanston Street, in Little Bourke Street, Melbourne is Chinatown.
Chinatown dates back to the 1850's and the gold rush days.
Melbourne's Chinatown claims to be the longest, continuous Chinese settlement in the western world.
The photo above captures one of many interesting streetscape features.

This is a pretty nifty Shadow Shot. The red sculpture is stands out to mark a very special place in your city and also your history!

Red...perfect.
Sacred sign and Secret code- what an awesome Haiku!!!!!! The picture is like a tale of 2 time periods--both frozen perfectly for us to watch! Great shot Gemma!
That Surfboard is awesome!

wonderful street scene
It looks indeed like a secret sign or code Well worded. In NZ we had many Chinees people coming in digging for gold although not as many.
Chinatown always has interesting stuff doesn't it? Even shadows!
Thank you for allowing me to enjoy a part of the world I would never see otherwise.
Wow! that is big....when we saw this loading we saw the top first and thought it would be some sort of lovely garden ornament!! ha! You got us Gemma....and we love it big & wow! What a fun piece of art to have around as you walk back and forth to work!!
I agree a great street scene with an amazing shadow ..
What an interesting Streetscape. Great shadows too!
Very nice. Love the photo.
Gemma... I love this photo! Your haiku is equally stunning. Seems there is a Chinatown in many cities. I have visited Chicago, San Francisco and Winnipeg. Would love someday to get to Melbourne. A Chinatown visit would be on the list of places to shop and eat.
I'm glad to be back in circulation. I have missed my shadow shot friends. Thank you for keeping this fabulous meme going along with MMT and Rose.
Next time you're in "Merica, look me up and we'll ride that motorcycle.
Peace
Chinatowns are special with their own smell, sounds, tastes...
Have a good week ahead!
I love how the red almost makes the rest of the photo look B&W!!
It makes its own quiet statement. Nice perch for the pigeons too.
