I Cannot Be ~ for One Single Impression "Change" prompt + Poets Online

~~~
I cannot be boxed
Symmetrical and planed sides
Berlin Walls are cruel
~~~~~~~~~~
~
If I were the sky
I would be a cloud
Drifting,
Reshaping
Reinventing
~
If I were the earth
I would be a rock
Bathing in
The rush of
A waterfall
~
If I were a tree
I would be a willow
Soft lacy wanderings
Dreaming quietly
In whispering breezes
By water
~
If I were a place
I would be Sheffield
In Tasmania
Vibrant with murals
Of old lifetime
Spaces
~
If I were a shop
I would be Berkelouw's
Rambling
Berrima homestead
Alone in serene farmland
Graced with an
Intimate cafe
And a wonderful log fire
Hosted
By an old armchair
~
If I were a garden

I would be
Mount Annan Botanic Garden
A healing place
Where forested boardwalks
Gently lead to sanctuaries
Of old songlines
And a sundial
On a hill
Waits for
Human shadows
To cast time
~
If I were a bread of life

I would wink
Impishly
From the exotic worlds
Of chocolate
~
If I were to be a season

I would be Autumn
Mystical limbo
Raining in colour
~
If I were to be an element

I would be Water
Paradox of
A variable constant
Sometimes plains of blue
Leading to
Silken road horizons
Sometimes lapping charms
By those coastal sands
Of decision
Sometimes cleansing
Healing hands
Sometimes
Stormy
Drowning
Rebirth
~
But, I am none of those things

For now
For now

I am just
Some eerie etchings
On a white slate
Trying to drift
In a tiny bark
Through tai chi skies.
~~~~~~~~~~
I cannot be tagged
Sticky, cramped in clawing words
Ink blots are magic
~~~~~~~~~~~

NOTE: I tried to create a wave-like motion in the line lengths; a little like tidal whimsy but also like the enigmatic waving pulse of a heart-beat!

Fragile

Have you ever felt really fragile. When you feel hard work, strong dreams and goals somehow crumble under the weight of "enough is never enough". I had one of those long moments today. Money is always a looming issue with us, ponderous like a waiting storm cloud. We try so hard to be positive, but sometimes it seems being positive only stalls reality. It has to be faced sometime. Once, we both owned our own homes, but we both lost everything in tragic circumstances. But we found each other; we are the ultimate strength for each other. But right now, I just don't know what to do next. There has to be a way, some miracle. I honestly believe it is out there somewhere.
~
So, after a heavy day at school, and thinking retiring to live my dream as a writer just seems further and further away, I decided to simply walk in the evening light.
~
The air was scented with storm and sharp sunset light. It felt invigorating. The street was quiet. I could just see glimpses of the bay far below my mountain. I ached for a miracle and almost felt an involuntary prayer escape me to the skies above. And as I walked I felt a kind of hush seeping through me.
~
It may have been the roses in the gardens. It may have been the whispering greens of pittosporums that seemed to brush close by me. But I felt the aura of a blessing circling round and over me.
~
And then I saw a thin, tatty letterbox. Clearly, it had survived violent mountain weathers and still was standing, stubbornly. It almost seemed to be stating, "I will be here". I smiled. It was the first precious smile in my day.
~ An angel bringing a gift in the form of a humble letterbox!
~ I am still smiling!

"In silence and movement you can show the reflection of people" - Marcel Marceau ~ for Cafe Writing

It may be
In the silence
Of mystical blue
Veils
Where just one tree Bends
To catch
The whispers of the Wind
~~~~~~~
It may be
In the swirling cycles
Of starry nights
Where just the eyes
Lift
To hear
The music
Of legends
Of dreamings
~
It may be
In the longing
To travel
A cosmic
Silk road
~~~~~~~

It may be in the still breath of an earthly landscape
Or in the whirling, creative spirit of the endless skies ~
There you will find
The inner
Reflective light of
Namaste

Tribute to Heath Ledger - The rains of yesterday are still lightly falling for Heath Ledger

The tears of yesterday still linger. So to transform the sadness of tears, here is the beautiful cleansing of Indian Rains. A Beautiful song for the exotic Indian Rain. One of the sensuous songs from the critically acclaimed award-winning 'MTV Album of the year' by the most popular singers of Indi-pop music,Hariharan & Leslie Lewis a.k.a Colonial Cousins.A suitable song to be heard when u feel bored & sit in your lawn having a hot coffee in the cold rains to make you feel the nature's beauty.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why did I choose rains from India? I have no real idea! So here are a few rains in my songlines.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I think of gushing, swirling waters
Gorging
Fruitless
Possessions~
~
I think of India
~
When I think of ancient waterworlds
Singing old sweet rivers
Of motherly love
And kindness
~
I think of India
~
When I think of eternal rains
Springing hope
From luminous
Rocky ochres
Of dreaming monoliths
To the choking dusts
Of Deccan plains
~
I imagine
Uluru
Reaching out
Longingly~
~
To Indian rains
~
P.S. I imagine Heath Ledger is Uluru. May he walk eternally in the love of Indian Rains.

rabi Khan re-visited - Some mystical magic after the last sadness

Butterfly, butterfly please do not fly so high,
I want to play with you...
I love your golden hue.
Wish I had wings, so I could dance and fly, like a butterfly...

His work has a silken gel, that almost captures the essence of transformation from solid to liquid. I am always entranced by the beauty of spirit in this artwork! If a picture can inspire the soul, this artwork does that for me!

My January shower of "holiday songlines" breeds blots of sleep

The more I untangle the webs
The more there are
~
The more I dream
The more reality I see
~
The more I linger by windows
Staring in wonder at seasonal landscapes
The more they cycle by
~
The more I open doors
The more I sense promise
Hope
Magical miracles~
In a drop of dew
Misty sunlight
A scent of eucalypt
A sprightly linnet or
Blue wren dancing
A whisper of wind
~
The more I seek lands afar
The more lands appear
~
The more I wander in rainbows
The more colours emerge
~
The more I feel the pain of
The hungry
The lonely
The sad
The lost
The poor of spirit
The more I feel the pain
~
The more I linger by earth's deep wells
Tasting sparkling
Fresh
Streams
The more they flow
~
The more I remember
Ancient songlines
From somewhere
The more they sing
~
The more I touch the mystique of stars
The more they gleam
Impishly
~
The more I sail
Into horizon sunsets
The further they seem to be
~
The more I empty the cup
The more it fills
~
The more I slip into sleep
The more I wake

Pilgrimage painted with Zulu colours

Climb
Just one
Holy mountain~
Beyond
The crush

And stench

To sacred pictures
Of old motherlands~

In response to South African pilgrims in pictures - BBC News - 21.01.08
An estimated one million followers of South Africa's Nazareth Baptist Church are coming to the end of their annual pilgrimage. They have spent the past two weeks on their holy mountain of Nhlongakazi, north of Durban. The church, also known as Shembe, has an estimated 4 million followers, or amaNazarites, mostly Zulu-speakers. The church was founded in 1910 by Isaiah Shembe, who died in 1935. Since his death, the church has split into several factions. The pilgrims walk barefoot for three days, covering 60km and sleeping in the open. They build fires along the way, sing and burn litter to purify their surroundings...Devotees or preachers wear white gowns and headdresses made of animal skins. They carry traditional Zulu fighting sticks called izimboko. Shembe women worship separately from men. They gather in a group and lay flowers on the hillside to remember the souls of the departed...Pilgrims believe if they reach the mountain, God will ease their pain, enable them to find employment and keep them safe in the year ahead. ~~Pictures and text by Alice Lander.

Treasure - for Writer's Island

Our kookaburra friends

"Kookaburra" - by indigenous artist Brendon Murray

This is my latest on HubPages about a dear feathered friend. Actually, I enjoy the visits of the kookaburra we call Scruff, but my partner has a very close spiritual connection with him.

According to Animal Dreaming

Laughing Kookaburra tells us to take responsibility for our own healing and to stop the pretence. Silent Kookaburra guarantees that healing has been initiated and is set to be effectual.

Kingfisher/kookaburra's wisdom includes:
* Connection to peaceful seas
* Happiness and love
* Peace
* Indifference to surroundings
* Clear vision through emotional waters
* Ability to dive (focus) into emotional waters and catch ones dreams

* The presence of kookaburra in a reading (or in your observations) indicates that it is a time of signals and omens. Kookaburra is a strong, bold energy which tends to resonate with god energies. Pay attention to opportunities around you, and listen to nature and to the world around you, you may find that you are being given some important messages at this time.

* Kookaburra is the energy of conquering fears and in turn, ending old patterns that aren’t nourishing. If there is a particular habit that you’re not happy with, working with kookaburra energy can help to dissolve it.

* Kookaburra helps you to hunt down your truths, and these truths enable you to recognize your own inner strength. In turn, you are able to teach your truths to others, and also aid others in finding and recognizing their own truths. You may find yourself teaching others in an informal setting, by sharing your passions and your beliefs with others.

(N.B. This blog is a delightful, spiritual space beaming out from Melbourne. I travelled seeking "a kookaburra" for my dearest love and found so much more. I will be visiting again to light another candle!)

Wash the Gem, dry the Gem, turn the Gem over...

It feels as if the Gem is moving
Her free will journey
Inhaling Time

While we coccoon
Waiting
Wingless
Inside
~

Suds from lots of bubble pipes
Rain generously
On her screens

Thankfully
The wipers are carefully tubed
In fine sheaths of white plastic

Suds
Fanning
A foamy breeze
Bathe the Gem
In magic waves
Of milk

And then
The deep whirring roar
As rolling
Parralel
Brushes
Softly savage
Softly ravage
Her body and soul

No respectable
Newly tuned child
Is worth a new sunrise
Without
A thorough
Deep
Wash

The brushes return
And return
And return
Mowing down
All stray suds
With a friendly burst
Of clean ocean

And then
The slow glaze
Of drying heat
Like ebbing and flowing tides
Of baby comfort

For just a moment
There is
A sigh
As the brushes
Slowly fold

And the bathing heat
Hangs heavy
In humid
Sensual
Bliss

The screen tells a new story now
A crystal, two-way mirror
Believing
The air
Is clear
Etched in fresh shapes
And pulsing colours

But Time is calling

A red
Lonely light
To the side
Becomes green

Exhaling Time

Turn

The Gem

Over...

The Gem - My Phantom Purple Mazda

Phantom Purple Mazda 3

There is nothing worse than waiting for some undefined time to pass
Waiting for the appointed tuning of
The car

Southern view of Port Phillip Bay
Summer holidays
And for some strange reason
Mornington was singing
With free breezes from a glistening sea
And not the tangled colour
Of people
Quite a surprise
A relief
~
Wandered into a cafe
For some capuccino time
~
A tiny sparrow shared our moment
Watching thoughtfully
On a verandah chair
Gracefully accepting
A few stray crumbs
For the family at home
~
But the soul felt restless
Here
Was not
The place
Today
~
And so
We walked
Happening on
A deserted field
Laden with freshly mown grass
~
Only a seagull or two
Watched
Maybe
With interest
~
And we found
In a pocket
Of stubborn grass
By the fence
An old cricket ball
Ragged
Pale
Forgotten
~
We spaced
Far apart
But facing each other
Smiling
And we arched the ball
In a bridge-like curve
A vital rainbow of energy
Between
Two pylons
~
Over some indefinite time
There were
Many curves
Many curves and
Many rainbows
~
And all too soon
~
The car
Was tuned

An ordinary week is sacred - songlines from my somewhere

For the Celts, a week was synchronised and divided by 7 sacred trees.
Sunday - birch
~~~ One could do worse than be a swinger of birches ~ Robert Frost
The birch tree symbolises purification, re-birth and new beginnings. It is one of the first trees to leaf in springtime. A great water divining wood.
Monday - willow
~~~ The willow tree plays the water like a harp ~ Ramon Gomez de la Serna
This is the tree of intuition. The tree is often assocaiated with witchcraft. It is the tree of dreaming and enchantment. The moon rules the willow. A great water divining wood.

Tuesday - holly
~~~ Love is like the wild rose-briar; Friendship like the holly-tree. The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms, But which will bloom most constantly? ~ Emily Bronte
In Celtic folklore, holly is King of the Waning Year and winter opponent of the oak, the summer tree; protector of family and friends. It is a plant found throughout the world; bears fruit in winter.
Wednesday - hazel
~~~ The hazel might be said to be the quintessential Celtic tree because of its legendary position at the heart of the Otherworld. ~ Mara Freeman
The hazel tree is the tree of wisdom and justice. It is a mystical tree. The tree is frequently to be found by holy wells in Britain and Ireland. Some legends say this tree is immune from all lightning and that the holy family sheltered under this tree. A great water divining wood.

Thursday - oak
~~~ Those green-robed senators of mighty woods, Tall oaks, branch-charmed by the earnest stars, Dream, and so dream all night without a stir. ~ John Keats
In Celtic folklore, the oak is King of the WaxingYear; it is in eternal struggle with the holly in the battle of the seasons. The oak is the symbol of nobility and independence.
Friday - apple
~~~ All millionaires love a baked apple. ~ Ronald Firbank
The apple is the symbol of fertility and immortality. It is, alternatively, symbolic of poison. The apple graces many world legends in both roles.

Saturday - alder
~~~ I am the shining tear of the sun. ~ Alnus
The alder is the symbol of bridges and foundations. It symbolises finding inner strength.
GEMMA WISEMAN
* A willow by a river is a soft thinking place.
* An oak by a winding highway marks the pride of the journey.
* The oak and the holly: public enemies, secret friends.
* To visualise wisdom, imagine a hazel tree by a sacred well.
* An apple is fruit for the hungry spirit.
* The birch and the alder - arboreal dimensions of the phoenix.
* A tree's branches are the world wide web to the sky.
So Strange ~~~~~ Pokarekare Ana ~~~~~ Hayley Westenra
SO STRANGE
It always seems to be that when the shell is poor
And the physical wells hunger
It is then the spirits of poetic landscapes
Wander in
Bearing many gifts
Hayley Westenra - Pokarekare Ana
Across the Tasman Sea is Aotearoa, our sister land of the Long White Cloud. "Pokarekare Ana" is a traditional folk love song, possibly composed in the era of World War I. Hayley Westenra's rendition of this song is like watching some fairy-tale legend unfolding before you.
They are agitated
the waters of Waiapu,
But when you cross over girl
they will be calm.
Oh girl return to me,
I could die of love for you.
I have written my letter
I have sent my ring,
so that your people can see
that I am troubled.
My pen is shattered,
I have no more paper
But my love is still steadfast.
My love will never
be dried by the sun,
It will be forever
moistened by my tears.
- translated by Toby Rikihana - There are more notes on the song here, detailing the many versions of the tune.
~~~
~~~~~~~~
In 1968, Rolf Harris presented these English lyrics for the song.
Oh hurry hurry home love
Hurry back to Rotorua
To the mountains and this valley
Oh hurry home to me.
I know, I know,
you had to go
Please hurry back home love
I miss you so.
In my mind I hear you singing
And the echoes fill the valley
Cross the lake of troubled waters
To the mountains and the sky.
I know, I know
you had to go
Please hurry back home love
I miss you so.
Po Kare Kare ana
Nga wai o Rotorua
Whiti atu koe hine marino ana e
e Hine e Hoki Mai ra
Ka Mate A-U-i Te-a-Ro-Ha E!
Oh I know you had to go.
Please hurry back home love
I miss you so.
Please hurry back home love
I miss you so.
Just some random thoughts from my somewhere - the songline of my somewhere
* A division bell is the taste and scent of cold darkness.
* Ancient wisdom is modern ignorance.
* Air magic is a kite streaming with colour.
* Moon magic is the rainbow in a night sky.
* To know what creature you are is animal magic.
* Breathe in the stone circles of the ancient ones.
* Ley lines are the music of ancient songs.
* Swirl the sands with an old twig and see the gallery of yesterdays.
* Take the soil from a lover's footprint; embrace it in a pot; plant a flower.
* Wings on your feet is crystal magic.
* Know the sacred kingdoms of metals.
* Seek your holy writings in the hieroglyphs of the spirit.
* Know the colour of your candle and bathe in its light daily.
* Offer grace and break the bread.
* Pen a wish on a silver balloon and set it free.
Reflections on the Celtic concept of Anam Cara
"An Anam Cara lives close to the land"
Fire
Water
Earth
Air
Elemental friends of old dreamings
"An Anam Cara loves your essence"
Being
Without the social frills and guises.
The inner landscapes
"An Anam Cara guides you to the presence you are"
The silken beauty of silence
The purling winds of morning
Wings
