Poetry Pantry #45
~

A moment to hold the briefcase
Clenched
And look up

Shoppers on a mission for
Must have accessories

Text to text
Words
Travelling light

All connected by gaffa tape webs of
Oily inflation
(Imaginary of course)

And those who dare to dream
Another reality
May only see
Some pseudo
Heavenly stairway
In pseudo sunlight
A hunk of
Empty
Lifeless
Shiny metal
On the move

New pilgrims to a new Canterbury?

(P.S. I just have music in my ears!)

NOTE: hedgewitch's response this week rocked me!
The title of her post is Blue Nowhere.
A blue wind wheeling to a blue nowhere! Like a tinted reality! This beautiful poem scoops up the senses and lets them flounder, delirious in a delicious nowhere!

"New pilgrims to a new Canterbury?" A valid, pognant question; especially given what precedes it. The brief stanza about texting and the atmosphere of clockwork regularity and the apparent contradiction of "lifeless" moving shines through. Great poem.

the stairway to heaven has been upgraded to an escalator...smiles. makes me feel like the plod through life has expanded...the work day never ends anymore cause they can reach you whenever...

ha-ha - i've learned, there are no escalators on the way to heaven - only steps...smiles

The way to Heaven is just one tiny little step at a time! AND there are lots of them!!! Love this shot and your processing of it. I would love to now how you did it. I am totally in awe of this one.

Loved it! New Chaucer? :D Pilgrims still travel to Canterbury by foot, usually carrying an oaken cross. The escelator and refrains you use here are brilliant

Loved your Metal (Cantebury) Tales. It's the poem I wished I'd written. Well done!

That song was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw this pic, and I'm amazed that you've managed to make it work so well here, very sharp take, and with no cliche whatsoever. Excellent commentary on the modern malaise.

Lovely imagery, Gemma. An escalator to heaven, cool!

Gemma,
I enjoyed reading your words.
I have had many soulless rides, on moving escalators. Usually places of depression and rushed pressure (London Underground experiences come to mind! )
Glad to have found you via Poets United.
I have added your blog to my list!
