Writer's Island 2010 ~ Prompt #22 ~ Image by American poet, singer-songwriter, musician, composer, cartoonist, screenwriter, and author — Shel Silverstein
+ whimsy
~
There is a place where the boardwalk ends
Just before the drop begins,
And there the view glows sweet and light,
And there the fall burns crimson bright,
And there young souls crouch in fright
Willing a candyfloss wind.
The boardwalk is cracking
And dust is amassing
And the dog's in a frantic fit
And it's so exciting
Beyond inviting
Not knowing that bottomless pit
The sign says "KEEP OFF!"
So I thought that meant "JUMP!"
So I'm doing just as I'm told
Mum will be so pleased
Her mind will be eased
Knowing I'm brave and bold
O Susie hang on
For the ride of your life
For here comes a big pink cloud
The candyfloss wind
Is a wonderful thing
When you don't want a straight drop down
P.S. The whimsy of magical thoughts
May seem unreal
But there is nothing more real to the soul than
A moment of
Simple
Smiling
Happiness

Your poem was very nice. I like Shel Silverstein's poem, and your poem, based on it, made me smile. It's obviou you are very fond of / familiar with Shel.
I really like this; there's something quite charming about it.
