AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

One Shot Wednesday #45
~

Parched and cracked
The old earths with
A thirst that
Supercedes
Evaporation
Guzzled
The torrential magic of
Unseasonal rains

Ochry palettes
Released
Tiny tugs
of green life

While from the mist of
Other times
Some legendary
Mother River
Breathes and slides
The birth of Water
Down to Father Ocean

But this was just
A passing sigh
The rains came
The rains died
The earth cried for
A little while

And now I gaze on
A lonely sea
Embroidered with
Murmuring
Silken seaweed
Like relics
Like memories
Then turn
Wistfully to
The muddied river banks
Fading
Like Eurydice and
Drying
~

A wonderful evocation of a drought scene. And a good use of the wordle words.

Gemma, Thank you for this piece. It's underscored with continuity. This too shall pass. I agree with Viv, you've used the words quite well.

What a spectacular use of the wordle words! I love so many of your images: "Ochry palettes Released Tiny tugs of green life" is wonderful! And "Embroidered with Murmuring Silken seaweed." WOW!

This poem is so Australia!
It seems our national dress should be sand shoes and a life jacket!

very nice...every year we get a hard rain and a river runs through my back yard...for a day and then it is gone for another year...

The last half of tis poem is like a doorway into another country. Nice work with the selection of words.

Lovely poem about the changing face of water on the Earth. I like the way you interspersed a different colour throughout the poem - very effective. Awesome blog.

Love your use of language and the way you turn phrases, for example "Embroidered with
Murmuring
Silken seaweed"

Love how you weaved all these words into the the sea - the use of seaweed as threads....just a beautiful thought for the day...bkm

A well woven tapestry of beauty in metaphor here- "a lonely sea embroidered with murmuring silken seaweed" a fantastic thread! ~ Rose

I applaud your creativity! You took random words and created something very strong. You last paragraph just sings.

I love poems which are inspired by nature...yours took me on a walk through your world. I especially loved the final stanza - really beautiful.
