Love David Austin roses - though sometimes wonder about the reasoning behind the names of specific varietals.
a lovely tribute to Tess. i remember reading the novel in high school.
I read the book in high school and saw Tess as a rather courageous figure, not as a tart. The movie then disappointed me, as it portrayed her more as a victim. The rose named after her is stunning, but I wish it wasn't red... which is sometimes associated with lasciviousness.
That ain't red!
My goodness, Tess was not a red, she was a delicate but rich pink, with soft vulnerable looking petals that were stronger than they appeared! Lovely photo, succinct verse.

I can see the significance of choosing a red rose to pay tribute to Hardy's Tess...a creamy peach rose won't be the right choice, would it?
