Totally Optional Prompt ~ Revisitation

When I was quite young
Lovely dresses floated by ~
I remember gloves
~
When I was quite young
Dainty high heels clicked and clacked ~
I saw dancing feet
~
When I was quite young
Tall, netted and saucer hats ~
I loved their parades
~
When I grew older
I knew bold coloured mu-mus
Shifts and bright sandals
~
The glow was still there
But elegance slipped away
Until today's flash

I measure out my life with haiku. My camera films my soul. ~ Gemma Wiseman

That does look like either a fancy dress shop or a step back in time.
I'm just thankful not to wear girdles and pointy bras...let's hear it for JEANS AND TEES !!!

Yeah, doesn't it just take something like your shopfront image to rekindle the imagination, nice poetry.
I often wonder what it was like in certain periods - at least we have revivals.
Great nostalgia. Loved the pic, too.
So dreamy and nostalgic Gemma. I picture you in heels and an apron, shirtwaist dress pressed just so. Personally, the mu-mu is much more comfy, I think.
Don't you just love trying on 'pre-loved' clothes? I feel and imagine the people who loved and sometimes were loved by them...
And the smell of those shops. Some people don't like it--I particularly do. Sweat and hope and joy and lust.
Thanks for this sweet piece!!
Gemma,
This makes me want to put on a dress and a hat and a pair of white gloves and go shopping along the sidewalk shops of the old downtown.
Thanks.
I loved the poem. Wonderfully written. Sorta dreamy feel to it...
