AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

3WW prompt #XCV ~ history + narrow + spent

If you want to feel
See and
Smell
A narrow version of
History
Wander into
An antique shop ~
One housed in an old home
Perhaps filled
(Old wooden floorboards
Walls
Windows)
With
Memories
Whispers
Spirits of
Other days

If you want to walk with passing time
Drift the streets ~
Seek signs
Peeling signs
Faded signs
Fragments of signs

But if your space
To dream
To wonder is
Spent
Tame
Dry
Lame ~
At least
Glance and
Note
The fresh
Clean
Make-up on

Such fascinating old shops.
I often visit your site but for some reason couldn't comment.
Now I have a new computer and it seems to be able too!
(I think because your site has lots od video etc the old one couldn't manage it!)
Anyway, so good to see life in a very different part of the world.
All best wishes!

Hi, Gemma,

Thanks for visiting and commenting on my 3WW offering. My daughter had the same reaction, "Oh, Mom! That's sad!" I didn't mean it to be sad, really. I was trying to communicate that, though I love the life I have chosen, to some the life of a faithful wife and mother would seem boring.

Moving on - I very much enjoyed your poem! My favorite part was about seeing and smelling a narrow version of history when one is in an antique shop. That is so true!

I liked this. The idea of a small sense of history wherever you are willing to look for it.

Great post. One of the best ways to experience history is to see how it was lived.

Putting fresh paint on ones past, not to cover and hide, but to see with new eyes what the new day will bring...eyes wide open...
