On Christmas Day 2010, at the Portsea Hotel, we found this poor bird's feet tangled in what seemed to be fine string (maybe discarded fishing line).
It was fluttering frantically in a bush.
My son and husband carefully held the bird and untangled it.
We were so pleased to see it fly away free!

Let's hope so! I love the bird rescue story!
Very interesting--death seems like a pretty crowded side street sometimes, but it isn't the main focus. Loved the story and what a beautiful picture!
How wonderful that you could save him!
"just a side street" Perfect line, wonderful haiku, and lucky bird
"It's just a side street"

Fragrant Memories
Hi Gemma, that photo in SOOCS might be conveying lots of messages, call it serendipity, but I linked Cycle of Life on a dead moth, now you linked this! And you said death is just a side street, so if we link all these, then we get a lot of information. Isn't it really a bit scary how we are all ONE!
Lovely :-) both the deed and the haiku
how thoughtful and brave of your two men! I mean it; I figure if I'd try something like that, the bird would peck my hand till it was bloody.
It's heartbreaking to see but I am relieved to hear poor bird flying after all. Good job!!!
great end to this story. :)
love the direction with this prompt.....lighthearted and hopeful...
A splendid capture - the helpful hands have freed this avian from the inadvertent trap to sing again. Nice!
Wow. Thank you for sharing ..what a great thing you guys did!
How you use throughways and side streets here is amazing and true! Thank you, writer and recorder of good deeds.
GREAT!!! glad the bird survived!

A satisfying rescue :)
Thought provoking haiku on death's side streets.
such a wonderful story.. and love death being a side street..
How nice of you to rescue the bird. I don't know how they get stuff tangled around their feet, but my chickens are always getting their feet in knots.
Lucky bird was spared from a terrible death... Beautiful post.
I've been writing my haiku on my blogspot blog.
