AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Faces of Danger

Sign at Cranbourne Botanical Gardens

In the undergrowth
Silent slithering danger
For snakes share these paths

There's bullies at large
Preying on innocent blood
Like poisonous snakes

In society
Devious propaganda
Cold snakes share these paths

The danger of life
Is failing to beware snakes
Exciting challenge

Excerpt from "A Narrow Fellow in the Grass"

But never met this fellow,
Attended or alone,
Without a tighter breathing,
And zero at the bone.

The last stanza of one of my favorite poems!

Very nicely done! I almost stepped on a Massasauga once. I was hiking, and it was crossing a path. I quickly learned to watch my step.
Beautiful blog!

Snakes... I detest them and fear what damage they can do, be it the kind that slithers upon the ground, or the even better camouflaged kind that walk among us.

Great take on the prompt, excellent poem! Thank you so much for joining us on Two Shoes Tuesday!

Snakes terrify me. Even the thought of snakes terrify me! This is why I don't do hiking....I once watched the movie "Snakes on a Plane"... for days afterwards, I was even terrified of extension cords, or anything of that sort on the floor....LOL eek.
