British Pub in Melbourne

Last weekend, I took a wander round Melbourne.
This sign for The Elephant and Wheelbarrow pub amused me!
It's a traditional British pub in Bourke Street.

Is there a connection with an elephant and a wheelbarrow? Just wondering.....

The pub owner must have a great sense of humor, being the name of the pub! I'd like to know if there's a relation of an elephant and a wheelbarrow. I would have to go in at least once.

What a great name!

I checked their website and I don't know if those prices are common for Melbourne, but they seem awfully expensive to a Canadian! But, the menu did look interesting.

I LOVE it that Melbourne - like much of Ontario, Canada - celebrate its British heritage. :) I'm sure, like Toronto, Melbourne celebrates many world heritages which is why we both live near such wonderful cities. :)

There must be a great story behind that funny name. Did the owner work in a zoo? Who knows?
