I was let out for a couple of hours today to enjoy a grey beach, grey waters and a grey sky in Dromana.
Even a lone seagull couldn't muster much height, fearing another icy deluge was imminent.
When tied and gagged in Winter's freezer for
Endless, bleak, misty days
We hope for some wayward sylph from Mother Nature to
Saunter by and
Move the door
Ajar
We hope for more than
Spring
(The pretty time)
We want Summer
SUMMER
WE WANT SUMMER
Aaah...
According to SOS
(Stereotypes of Summer - published by the Utopian Dictionary Press)
Summer spells:
Swimmming refreshing blue seas ~ real or metaphorical
Unifying body and spirit with the balm of holiday happiness
Mellowing ~ the mind
Massaging ~ the body into
Eternal
Reverie
The other dystopian dictionary would have us believe
(If I can vaguely remember):
Sizzling sunburn ~ of earth and flesh
Unsightly plague of pesky flies
Manipulating ~ the patience
Masticating ~ the temper into
Everlasting
Regret that we ever chose Summer as our dream season
But I lost that dictionary
Somewhere in the pile of melancholic leaves
I raked up
Last Autumn

Captures that moment where we wish for the pleasures of the season to come whilst downplaying its miseries and in someway losing out on the moment
ah yes...of course..over in australia it's winter now...can feel the yearning for summer and love that pic
Autumn looms here as you pine for summer! What a miserably looking grey day that is....
haha glad you lost that other dictionary...smiles....summer has its goods and bads...brutal heat for us this year has def caused some bads but....
Ah, just loved this - the craving for summer so effective and the dictionaries are really charming as well as the lost one in the fall leaves. Very clever, very very charming. k.
A wonderful reminder of the value of contrast in our lives. By the way, I didn't have time to respond to your huitain prompt so I wrote the poetics summer one in that form. Very fun. Thank you.
Really creative piece. I'm a reference nerd, so I absolutely love the inclusion of the entries here, so cool to see someone who doesn't have my name, utilize alternative reference sources and say as such. Such a nice touch here. Really like the overall tone, and the shape of the poem really carries a mirroring of the photo to some degree. Great read. Thanks
There is something about a pier that signifies summer...in all kinds of weather it is vulnerable and susceptible to the changes of nature, as we are...nicely done ;__)
